A Little Thread Goes a Long Way

Last Sunday, on Mother's Day, my sister's school had a fair to raise money for their school so I decided to make some earrings to be sold there. i used the same thread graphics technique that I wrote about here.
The weather was terrible on Sunday and there wasn't much people at the fair so I only sold 3 pairs, but it was still very exciting that somebody actually bought my earrings! :))

The last three pairs are the ones that have new owners now :))

Thread Graphics

This was my first try at thread graphics

It's been ages since I last posted something, but that doesn't mean that i haven't been doing/making a lot of things ;D. I just haven't had the time (or energy) to write about all the stuff I have been up to. I will try to do my best though to write about these things now that we have moved and had some time to settle in (we finally got our sofa about a week ago..jeee!!)
So the past autumn I had the need to explore new grounds, so I tried out pottery (I'll have a post about this up soon), dancing (I loved it so much that after moving to Finland, one of the first things I did was signing up for a contemporary dance class ;D) and I also had a chance to try out thread graphics (Thanks to my friends ♥ , who gave me an awesome birthday gift!).
I have to admit I wasn't sure what thread graphics was before reading the description of the class. It turned out to be quite a bit of fun and I immediately got a lot of ideas what to do with the technique.
I would say that thread graphics is basically a type of embroidery that combines math and geometrical shapes with embroidery. It is most commonly used in paper crafts for making unique looking cards or other decorative things (like seating cards or menus etc). But it can also be used for making jewellery or even Christmas decorations.

All in all I really enjoyed learning this new technique and was surprised how quick and simple it actually is to make something with this technique. I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of this technique in the future.

Golden Chain Necklace with Minty Accents

I've wanted to make a statement necklace to add some colour and va-va-voom to simple outfits for a while now.

So when I found THIS instruction I got inspired and decided to make something quite similar.

I used a gold chain, some mint green yarn and some green leaf-like beads I got from my cousin years ago.

I thought the colours would be nice for spring and summer

I cut the chain into two pieces and weaved these pieces together with the yarn, leaving the ends quite long. Then I attached the beads with another piece of yarn, again leaving the ends of the yarn quite long.

Lastly I attached some more yarn to both sides of the chain and braided the yarn using THIS instruction.
I think the braid gives the necklace a more finished look.

 I wear a lot of dark clothes so it's nice to brighten up the look with a pop of colour.

Repurposing a T-shirt into a Necklace

There are many t-shirt re-purposing ideas that I'd like to try out and I decided to start with something fairly simple - making a necklace.

I made the necklace out of a shirt that had some holes in it (and therefore I didn't feel bad for cutting it up) and I also used some mint pearls and chain that I bought recently.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the process of making the necklace but I will explain briefly what I did.

Firstly I measured how long I wanted the necklace to be.

Then I cut the chain according to that. I cut the jersey material a bit (maybe 10 cm) longer than the chain. 

I braided three of the jersey strips, made knots to one of the strips and left the others as they were.I did this to add some texture and make it a bit more interesting.

I took some thread and weaved it through the chain adding the beads at random distances. I'm not a fan of symmetry so the more asymmetric and random the better ;D

 Then I attached the chains and the jersey strips to a loop, kind of twisting/braiding them randomly so they would make a nice form. The fastener is quite bulky and heavy duty but I think it suits the look I was going for.

Older projects

Ok, I finally have some time to continue blogging with my next post.

The next few pictures are some of my older jewelry projects. Unfortunately I haven't had any time to make new jewelery since Christmas. But I will make some time soon when the school break starts.

These were a Christmas present for my boyfriends sister Anna. These are probably one of my favourite earrings I have ever made. Although they were really easy to make it was fun to make them and the result was nice and girly. The perfect pair to wear with a cute skirt :)

I used some red glass pearls and a lot of wire for making these. Fun and time consuming ;D

The inspiration of making these came from an Estonian chef-model-fashion icon Anni Arro. These are SO simple but at the same time quite showy.

These earrings were really fun to make because it was all about the randomness of the wire and the colour of the pearls. The white cubes are glass and the green ones are swarovski.

This post came out quite dry and not so interesting but I hope that when I get to posting about the newer stuff it will be more interesting and passionate  :))
